A timeless tradition of devotion, rhythm, and storytelling
Bharatanatyam is one of India’s oldest classical dance forms, rooted in the sacred temple traditions of Tamil Nadu. Once performed as an act of devotion, it blends bhava (emotion), raga (melody), tala (rhythm), and natya (drama) into a vibrant storytelling tradition that conveys myth, music, and spiritual expressions through movements and gestures.
In the 20th century, pioneers like Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundale brought Bharatanatyam from temple to stage, preserving its depth while making it accessible to wider audiences. Paired with the rich textures of Carnatic music, this dance form remains a dynamic, evolving art that inspires and connects people across cultures and generations.
